In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil’s might,
Beware my power…
Green Lantern’s light!
I love the whole concept of the Green Lantern Corps and how being equipped with their Power Rings and Willpower, they can create any construct with their imagination as their only limitation. One of the primary (and I would argue, most valuable) lessons in this story is that you cannot fight Fear with Fear. Denying that you have Fear only allows it to continue living inside of you. The only way to defeat it is to acknowledge it, accept it, and learn to Overcome it. When you can do that, you’re invincible.
These stories aren’t just about people and creatures with super powers. In most cases there is a much deeper meaning being shared. It shows basic truths about the society of the time, and teaches values and lessons in a metaphorical sense that can be realistically applied. That’s certainly one of the greatest things fiction in art form (text or visual) can provide. It teaches us things in an entertaining fashion, that even children could understand. It’s so simple, yet complex but all together beautiful.
